Survey-grade 3D modelling with GNSS, cameras, and AI in handheld photogrammetry device

Looq AI, California-based company, is transforming the surveying industry with their end-to-end solution for digitizing the built world. Their hand-held device called Q creates a “digital twin” of the real word to modernize asset management, infrastructure maintenance, surveying and more. The Q camera integrates the mosaic-X5 compact GNSS module receiver, to achieve centimeter-grade PPK accuracy even in challenging environments. The mosaic receiver is fused with INS and four cameras (one on each side, one facing forward, and one tilted upwards) which captures all the data needed for the high-resolution, georeferenced 3D model of the environment. The result is 100 times the data rates and spatial sampling compared to a laser system.

Our customers need precision and accuracy without compromise. That is why we selected a Septentrio compact GNSS module receiver, which answers the demands of our users as well as the tight space constraints of a handheld device.

Looq AI Q camera integrates mosaic-X5 compact module
The Q camera integrates mosaic-X5 compact module GNSS receiver for survey-grade accuracy even in challenging environments.

Why did Looq AI select mosaic-X5 for their handheld survey device:

  • Survey-grade PPK accuracy
  • Small form factor needed for a handheld device
  • AIM+ anti-jamming technology for mitigation of GNSS interference which can be generated by high-voltage power lines, cellular towers, power transformers or other electric equipment
  • Multipath mitigation for robust positioning near high structures where GNSS signals can be reflected

Once the data is collected with Q, it can be uploaded via Wi-Fi to the cloud for automated post-processing. AI algorithms are used for image processing to provide enhanced spatial resolution. A web-based application is then used for visualization and analysis of the 3D data model.

Looq AI was the winner of the Edison Best New Product Award in the section of Intelligent Modeling, in 2023.
